What’s My Workout: Jennifer Forrester

Jennifer Forrester skyrocketed to social media fitness fame in 2014 as one half of the dynamic duo TwoBADBodies. Her vibrant, inspirational videos caught the eye of FLOTUS, and she began a nationwide collaboration with Michelle Obama’s Let’s Move Campaign. This year, she is working on a new endeavor. Her first child, a son, is due in June. Utilizing this transformational experience to continue her mission of fitness education, she has partnered with Cody to create a series of prenatal fitness videos (tabata, core, and recovery) available through their app. (As a special offer, FitBump readers can get 20% off their program using the exclusive code FITBUMP20!) We caught up with Jennifer at the end of her third trimester.

Q: What were your typical workouts before you became pregnant?

A: Prior to pregnancy, I liked doing track-inspired workouts along with plyometrics, and other bodyweight strengthening exercises (e.g., push-ups, pull-ups, squats, lunges, planks etc.).

Q: How have you modified your workouts to fit your changing energy level and body?

A: I’ve made a number of modifications to my workouts. Instead of sprinting like I did pre-pregnancy, I walk and jog more. I still enjoy tabata-style training. I just mix in safe variations of my favorite movements.

Q: What has surprised you the most about being pregnant and staying active?

A: My energy levels! My first trimester really caught me off guard. I felt so exhausted during my workouts - it was hard to stay motivated. I started doing shorter workouts. Instead of an hour-long workout, I cut it down to 20-30 minutes. I found that was doable and much easier for me to stay consistent.

Q: What is your current fave fitness move?

A: If I had to choose one, I would say lunges because I like so many different variations!

Q: What have you learned about yourself during this experience?

A: I’ve learned so much throughout my pregnancy experience. I have a whole new level of awareness. I pay more attention to what I’m eating, how I’m moving, where I'm traveling and even what I'm smelling! I notice myself paying attention to factors I didn't before, because I want to keep my baby safe.

Q: What is your pregnancy fitness/wellness philosophy in three words?

A: Listen. I pay special attention to what my body is telling me.
Learn. I'm a sponge, soaking up as much information as possible!
Cherish. This is such a special time in my life. It's important to appreciate it!

Q: What are you most excited about when the little one arrives?

A: I’m looking forward to so many things. I can't wait to hold him, plus I’ve been wondering what he looks like! I’m also excited to figure out what makes him smile. Most of all, I’m looking forward to turning him into my workout buddy. I know I'll be incorporating him into so many of my workouts!
