Say It With Stripes for Spring 2014

Like florals and bright colors, nautical stripes are one of the ubiquitous prints of spring and summer. A few seasons ago, brands like Marc Jacobs, Moschino and Oscar de la Renta brought it to the fashion forefront with sequined dresses, cropped jackets and lavish gowns that were all about high contrast. A mod sensibility of the swinging ’60s was also all over the streets, where the chicest ladies in town were decked out in outfits resembling Elvis Presley’s ensemble in Jailhouse Rock. Though the trend may not be as prevalent this year, stripes, like the LBD, will never go out of style.

Hedi Slimane, in particular, is one designer who brought stripes back this season. His collection reflected the cool, streetwise woman who likes to party and has a wardrobe to match. It beamed 70’s excess, making his striped pieces perfect for a night on the town. But if you're looking for something more subdued for the beach, J.Crew, Topshop and Mango will always have casual options in their evergreen collections.
